eCognition is the original object-based image analysis software.First launched in May 2000, eCognition introduced the computer method for extracting information from images using a hierarchy of image objects (groups of pixels) as opposed to traditional pixel processing methods. It is used in earth sciences to develop rule sets (or applications for eCognition Architect) for the automatic analysis of remote sensing data.
